Mexicans and Latinos celebrate the Mexican Independence each September 16th, the beginning of the independence war led by a Catholic Priest Miguel Hidalgo I. Costilla, in the city of Dolores Hidalgo, in Guanajuato, Mexico.

On the early hours of the morning of September 16th of 1810, Fr. Miguel Hidalgo I. Costilla summoned Mexican people to fight for the liberation of the Mexicans that, were under the control of the Spanish since the conquest of Mexico in 1521.

On September 17th 2005, a celebration of the First Annual Festival Independencia de México was celebrated at Fireman's Park in Middleton, Wisconsin. There were more than 1,800 people of different nationalities who assisted and participated in this event. The event exceeded the goal set by the organizers and it was considered by community leaders and local newspapers as a total success.

This year, Mexicans and Latinos living in Wisconsin will celebrate, for the fifth time, the 199th anniversary of Mexican Independence on September 13th, 2008. Details about location coming soon. Enjoy this great experience with your family and friends.
